CANACONA: ‘We for Palolem’ demanding proper health facilities at the only government hospital (Community Health Centre) sought X-Ray facility should function 24 x 7 daily and immediate introduction of Bullet Ambulance services in Canacona remote areas.
Leading a delegation of Executive members of ‘We for Palolem’, South-Goa District Congress Block General Secretary Gaspar Coutinho, met the Health Officer Dr. Jose Tavares at Community Health Centre (CHC) at Canacona on Tuesday.
The Health Officer is questioned as to the functioning of X-Ray unit only for half-days on Saturdays and demanded that X-Ray Unit should function 24 x 7 uninterrupted to provide the much needed health services to the needy at the only Government hospital in the whole of Canacona taluka. ‘People are unnecessarily sent to Margao every now and then’.
According to Coutinho, Dr. Tavares stating at least 5-6 technicians would be required to keep the X-Ray unit working for 24 x 7, sought time informing he will put up a proposal to his higher authorities to depute the necessary staff to keep the X-Ray unit open 24 x 7.
The ‘We for Palolem’ delegation also questioned the health officer of the status of replacement of every time failing Elevator and asked why the Bullet Ambulance as informed three months ago is still not started in Canacona as yet. Health Officer however, informed that he has already put a proposal to the Director of Health Services for the same and also is following up to get the necessary approval to bring the Bullet Ambulance to Canacona.
The delegations contention is that the 108 ambulance is mostly inaccessible to several of the remote areas of Canacona Taluka, and since the government has already decided to introduce bullet ambulance , it should have been urgent allotted to CHC Canacona, as the taluka has more of remote areas where 108 ambulance cannot access.
Some of the Executive members of ‘We for Palolem’ are its Secretary Rosario Fernandes, Treasurer Antonio Pereira, Executive members Jacinta Baretto and Mercy Fernandes.
