PORVORIM: In a major decision, the State government today announced to provide financial benefits under the Griha Aadhar scheme to those widow beneficiaries of the Dayanand Social Security scheme apart from providing Rs 2500 widow pension.
MLA Ganesh Gaonkar questioned whether there is a provision for the beneficiary of Griha Adhar
to also avail DSS Scheme, in the event she becomes a widow.
Social welfare minister Subhas Phaldesai told House that the benefits will be availed by only those widows with children below the age of 18 years.
He explained that the government has given in principle approval to provide Rs 1500 under Griha Aadhar to DSS widow beneficiaries. He said they will also receive Rs 2500 as a widow pension
Minister said that the file was pending with the finance department and raised a query with regards to additional burden to the state.
“However, the said proposal is under the consideration of the Government,” said Phaldesai.
Chief Minister Pramod Sawant said that he will intervene in the matter and check the file.
Calangute MLA Michael Lobo had urged the government to clear the huge backlog of applications for the Laadli Laxmi and Griha Aadhar schemes and disburse the amount to the beneficiaries on a priority basis.
Any delay in disbursals, Lobo said, would defeat the very purpose for which the two schemes were formulated.
