PANAJI: Saligao MLA Kedar NAik has threatened to come on the street with the people if the dumping of waste fromSonsodo at Saligao plant is not stopped.
“I am 100 p.c with the people of Saligao. We had taken a delegation to the Chief Minister and took an assurance that waste would be stopped. Thereafter, I and Calangute MLA Michael Lobo have also tabled a Calling Attention in the House,” he said adding it has been postponed three times now.
“Myself and Calangute MLA Michael Lobo alongwith our people are on the same page. that we do not want garbage outside our constituencies. The plant was for two constituencies alongwith coastal areas,” he said. Naik said the capacity was 100 tonnes earlier which was enhanced to 250 tonnes. but slowly slowly garbage started to come in from far away places and now we know the waste is coming from Sonsodo.
“We are clear that you cant keep your house clean and throw garbage in somone else’s constituency. We need to change our mindset,” he said.
He said the people of Saligao are facing the brunt due to stench.
“The leachette the waste strewn on entire road. Panchayat has cleaned the waste with their own funds.
We are very clear aboutit, we will not allow additional garbage to be brought in our constituency. If the government still goes ahead, we will not hesitate to come on the street and we mean it,” he said.
