FATORDA: As the Congress party is still indecisive over the alliance issue for 2022 elections, the Goa Forward Party (GFP) said that their options are open.
“I am not sure what the Congress party is up to; I have again and again told them that the Goa Assembly Elections are in February and that there is very little time,” said GFP President Vijai Sardesai, speaking to reporters.
He further said that there is a relaxed level and that the party needs to be election ready.
“I am telling that Goa Forward is a regional party and our options are still open,” Vijai said.
Sardesai on Saturday said that he was expecting a final decision from the Congress party this coming Monday.
AICC Goa Desk Incharge Dinesh Gundu Rao had called in a meeting with GFP President Vijai Sardesai to discuss the alliance on Saturday. After the meeting, Gundu Rao said healthy discussions were underway with the regional outfit.
Sardesai had met Congress leader Rahul Gandhi last month, and it was reported then that the former ally of the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) would contest the election in alliance with the grand old party.
When asked to comment on the tie-up, Congress leader and senior observer for Goa Assembly polls P Chidambaram, however, said on Thursday, “the word alliance is used indiscriminately”.
“So far, we had one party leader (GFP chief), Vijai Sardesai, who came to Delhi and said, to defeat the BJP, my party offers support to the Congress’. Rahul Gandhi said we accept the support. All other details have to be discussed further,” Chidambaram said.
