VALPOI: With mining closed since 2012 and the trucks lying idle for almost 10 years now, the truck owners in Honda-Sonshi-Naveli, of Sattari taluka, are facing another challenge of safeguarding their trucks.
In a shocking development, it has been revealed that there are cases of 15 truck batteries being robbed from the villages.
The development has rocked villages of Honda-Sonshi and Navelim as the news of missing batteries spread across villages.
Every owner started checking their vehicle batteries, and 15 batteries were missing.
Truck owner Prakash Gavas, when contacted, said that a large number of batteries had gone missing in all three areas on Monday night.
He said the truck owners face huge problems due to the mining closure, and another hand, this loss of batteries has become a significant shock.
He said that the sudden disappearance of the batteries in the truck was really annoying.
The truck owners have urged the Valpoi police to take the matter seriously and demanded immediate arrest of the suspects.
As a precautionary measure, many truck owners have started removing batteries from their trucks and safely keeping them in their homes.
Some truck owners, while talking to the reporter, said that the police should increase night patrols in areas like Sonashi, Naveli and Honda
and only then these types of thefts will be brought under control.
The truck owners said that today it was batteries; in future, it could be tyres etc., and hence the culprits have to be nabbed immediately.
