CHiMBEL: In a shocking incident, an 18 yr old Mumbai residence lost his life after drowning in an abandoned stone quarry at Chimbel.
As per information, the 18 year old identified as Derrick Raj along with seven others had gone to the stone quarry for an outing when a girl from the group decided to take a plunge into the waters.
She however started drowning as the water was deep and Derrick along with his another friend Abner jumped into the quarry to rescue her.
While Abner and the girl struggled and managed to swim back to safety, Derrick however failed to come out of the quarry.
The body of Derrick Raj was recovered this morning by private divers.
However, police said that because the abandoned stone quarry had already taken many lives, it needed to be walled to prevent such tragedies in the future.
According to reports, Derrick and his cousin had traveled to Goa for a vacation and were living with Merces’ relatives. They were scheduled to depart for Mumbai on Monday night.
