PANAJI: Maharashtrawadi Gomantak Party (MGP) leader and Minister Sudin Dhavalikar has recalled his political journey, highlighting his association with the Jana Sangh, the Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) and the MGP, while maintaining that the party’s stand on a possible alliance with the BJP will emerge after internal discussions.
Dhavalikar said he joined the MGP decades ago alongside leaders including Ravi Naik, Prashant Bhat and Vinod Nageshkar. He recalled that before joining the regional party, he had worked with the Jana Sangh and the VHP. When the Jana Sangh evolved into the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), he chose to align himself with the MGP.
Recalling the Marathi language agitation, Dhavalikar spoke about standing together with Ravi Naik and young activists from Bandora and neighbouring areas. He emphasised that unity among those involved played a crucial role in their struggle and eventual victory.
On the possibility of an electoral alliance between the MGP and the BJP, Dhavalikar said discussions were still underway within his party. Responding to the Chief Minister’s remarks that the decision would come from the BJP’s top leadership, he indicated that the alliance question would be addressed through high-level deliberations.
The minister declined to comment further, stating that the party’s official position would depend on the outcome of its working committee discussions.
