BENAULIM: Former Goa Tourism Minister and former Benaulim MLA Francisco Xavier Mickky Pacheco has announced his decision to contest the 2027 Goa Legislative Assembly elections from Benaulim constituency on the ticket of the United Goans Democratic Party (UGDP).
Pacheco said Benaulim was where his political journey began and where he first earned the trust of the electorate. He recalled that the people of the constituency had elected him three times, describing their support as one of the greatest honours of his public life.
“Benaulim is where my political journey began, where the people placed their trust in me, and where I am determined to return to serve them with renewed commitment,” Pacheco said.
The former minister said his decision followed encouragement and requests from residents who wanted him to return to Benaulim. He added that, after shifting his political focus to Nuvem constituency, he had continued to follow the aspirations and concerns of Benaulim’s people.
Pacheco expressed the view that the constituency had not witnessed the level of development, attention and positive change residents had expected. He stressed the need for effective representation, accessible leadership and a stronger voice for local concerns.
Outlining his priorities, Pacheco said he would focus on strengthening local infrastructure, improving roads and civic amenities, creating employment and livelihood opportunities, protecting the interests of local residents, and promoting responsible development. He also emphasised the importance of preserving Benaulim’s identity, community values, environment and heritage.
“This decision is not merely about contesting an election. It is about returning to the people who gave me the opportunity to serve, renewing an old bond of trust and working together to address the issues that matter most to Benaulim,” he said.
Pacheco said public service should be measured by tangible improvements in people’s lives rather than promises or political slogans. He maintained that political office was a responsibility entrusted by the electorate and not a personal privilege.
Taking aim at the current style of leadership in the constituency, Pacheco said several residents had expressed concerns about what they perceived as arrogance and leadership that failed to reflect people’s aspirations. He urged voters to assess candidates on their conduct, accountability, commitment and ability to serve the public interest.
Pacheco expressed confidence that voters would evaluate his candidature on the basis of his past record, experience and accessibility. He also said he was confident of securing a larger victory margin than in his previous elections.
Seeking support across communities, religions and political affiliations, Pacheco said his commitment would be to serve every resident of Benaulim fairly and without discrimination.
“The 2027 Assembly Elections will provide the people with an opportunity to decide the future direction of their constituency. I have placed my record of public service before the people, and now I place before them my vision for Benaulim and my renewed commitment to its progress,” he said.
Pacheco concluded by appealing to the people of Benaulim to support his candidature and join him in building what he described as a stronger, more prosperous constituency.
Francisco Xavier Mickky Pacheco is a former Tourism Minister in the Government of Goa and former MLA from Benaulim and Nuvem constituencies. He will contest the 2027 Goa Legislative Assembly elections from Benaulim as a UGDP candidate.
