MARGAO: Goa State Pollution Control Board (GSPCB) has directed Margao Municipal Council (MMC) Chief Officer to be present before the member secretary on December 1 inorder to show cause for failing to directions w.r.t inspection of the discharge of digested slurry Into the fields of the 5TPD Bio Methanation plant at SGPDA market.
On December 1, the regulator ordered the chief officer to stay in front of the board and requested an explanation for why he shouldn’t face appropriate legal consequences for disobeying its directive.
During the inspection, according to GSPCB member secretary Sanjeev Joglekar, it was discovered that the digested slurry was released into the fields through a hole in the plant’s back. Additionally, it was observed that since October 2022, the slurry had not been disposed of via night soil tankers.
Joglekar added that leachate was observed moving from the area where waste is loaded into the storm water drain outside the building.
According to records kept by the board, the council did not have the proper authorization from the board to operate the plant in accordance with the Air (Prevention and Control of Pollution) Act of 1981 and the Water (Prevention and Control of Pollution) Act of 1974, a member stated.
