KERI: During an early-morning operation at the Keri check-post in Chorla Ghat, the Valpoi police stopped an illicit beef transit network and took four people into custody. The people who were arrested are Amaanali Hussainsab Dessai, 23, of Zuarinagar, Mormugao; Sayyed Aminsab Mokashi, 29, of Mangor Hill, Mormugao; and Sohail Salim Naikwadi, 28, and Irfan Asif, 23, both of whom live in Ujwal Nagar, Belagavi, Karnataka, according to SDPO Bicholim Jivba Dalvi. Two cars with the registration numbers GA-03-Y-7867 and GA-05-B-9993 were seized by police at the BCP Keri checkpoint during the operation on March 16 at approximately 2:30 am. Officers found 500 kg of beef meat during the examination, which is worth about Rs. 2.75 lakh.
Both cars and the beef were seized by the police under a panchanama; the estimated total worth of the property involved is Rs 18 lakh. The confiscated meat was examined by a veterinarian. In accordance with Section 8 of the Goa Animal Preservation Act of 1995, the Valpoi police filed a formal complaint. SDPO Jivba Dalvi oversaw the raid, which was headed by PI Videsh Shirodkar, PSI Prathamesh Gawas, and constables Somnath Ustekar, Nikhil Gawas, and Sangeetha Zore, a female constable. Under the general direction of Tikam Singh Verma, IPS, and under the supervision of SDPO Jivba Dalvi and PI Videsh Shirodkar, additional investigation is under progress.
