PANAJI: Chief Minister Pramod Sawant today said 95 per cent of the accidents that occur during the nighttime are due to drunk driving.
“95 per cent of the accidents that occur during the night time are due to drunk driving. Need strict rules to prevent it; Drunk and drive should stop in the state,” said CM Sawant.
He further said that the fine for drunk driving is very lower, and the person under the influence of alcohol is left free.
“We might think of getting amendments to the existing law to increase the fines for drunk and driving,” he added.
Sawant said that if we go through the record, almost 95 accident cases taking place at night happen under the influence of alcohol.
The Chief Minister was speaking regarding the accident that occurred yesterday when an SUV carrying around four people fell into the Zuari river from a bridge.
