VASCO: Brushing aside the suggestions that teh Dabolim airport will be shut after Mopa starts operations, the Airport Authority of India has said that Dabolim will continue to boost Goa Tourism.
Airport Director SVT Dhanamjaya Rao stated that Dabolim now has requests for charter flight slots from eight destinations.
“We have received a request for slots for the arrival of charter flights from eight destinations of Tel Aviv, Kuala Lumpur, Bahrain, Russia, Almati, Gatwick, Manchester and Muscat,” he said.
He said the approval for requests is in the pipeline.
“Scat Air, Rossiya, Aeroflot, Gulf Air, and Arkia airlines have applied for the slots,” he said.
He stated that besides the charter flights, AAI has regular international flights operating from Dabolim Airport to London, Dubai, Muscat and Sharjah.
On the Mopa Airport, he said, “it has already been clarified that Goa will now have two airports for the state for domestic and international flights”.
He said there is no division between the category of flights operating at both airports, which will continue to get domestic and international flights.
“There are no issues at all regards business and it finally as per my opinion it depends on the passengers booking to the airport of their choice based on flights booking available. The airline and passengers can now come to any Airport of their choice, and airlines can also choose the airport they want to fly to or operate from,” said Rao.
