PANAJI: Leaders and workers of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) on Thursday staged a protest outside the Panjim Police Station, accusing the BJP-led government of using the police machinery to target opposition voices and social activists.
The protest, termed as the “Chatai-Ushe Andolan”, was led by senior AAP functionaries who alleged that repeated police summons were being issued to party leaders and activists in connection with protest-related cases in an attempt to suppress dissent.
Addressing the gathering, AAP leaders claimed that the law and order situation in Goa was deteriorating, citing recent murder incidents reported from Borim and Calangute as well as the growing drug problem in the state. They alleged that instead of focusing on serious criminal activities, the police force was being diverted towards politically motivated actions against opposition parties.
The party further accused the BJP government of indulging in political vendetta and misusing state machinery to intimidate critics and protestors. AAP leaders said activists raising public issues were allegedly facing harassment through repeated questioning and legal notices.
The protesters demanded that the government allow police agencies to function independently and focus on maintaining public safety rather than targeting political opponents. The agitation continued for some time before police intervened and brought the situation under control.
