VALPOI: After 12 long years, Paikul village has finally seen street lights lit up.
The villagers are enthralled by the development and have thanked the Valpoi Electricity department officials and thanked panchayat member Asmita Melekar for the good work.
About twenty houses in Paikul village in the Guleli panchayat area complained that the street lights were not working.
Twelve years ago, electricity poles were installed, but the LED street lights or sodium lamps were not installed.
Villagers have given credit to Deepak Gavas, Assistant Engineer, Valpoi, for taking the initiative to install lights.
When contacted, Asmita Melekar said that street lights have started working in Paikul village.
“Due to the complete darkness on the roads, there was an atmosphere of fear among the citizens. This is also as wild animals are roaming at night,” she said.
Asmita Melekar thanked teh power department for the gesture.
Linemen Bhalchandra Gavkar, Gurudas Gavkar and Uttam Naik also contributed to this, she said.
When contacted, Assistant Engineer Deepak Gawas said that it is essential to have electric lights in rural areas.
He clarified that due to the good cooperation given by the member Asmita Melekar, the power department has succeeded in providing power supply to these villages after twelve years.
