PANAJI: BJP today appointed Siddhesh Sripad Naik as the Secretary of the party with immediate effect.
Siddesh Naik was denied a ticket by the party high command to contest from the Cumbarjua constituency. The ticket was given to the wife of sitting MLA Pandurang Madkaikar.
“Today party has appointed Siddesh Shripad Naik as Secretary, and with this, he has been given the responsibility of Vasco constituency for elections,” said Tanavade addressing the media.
He further said that Siddesh decided to stand by the party and accepted the party’s decision to give a ticket to Janita Madkarikar.
“Siddesh was interested in party ticket and had worked for the party on different platforms,” said Tanavade.
Tanavade said he never demanded a ticket as Union Minister Sripad Naik’s son.
“I will work for the party in Goa; I stand by the party and accept the decision of the party to give the ticket to Janita Madkaikar,” said Naik.
On the other hand, Siddesh Naik is a North Goa Zilla Panchayat member who was eyeing a ticket from Cumbarjua.
In its second list of candidates released on Wednesday, BJP nominated Janita Madkaikar as the Cumbarjua candidate. She is the wife of sitting MLA Pandurang Madkaikar, who has won from this seat 4 times since 2002.
As per sources, the Union Minister’s son held late-night meetings on Wednesday with his supporters and appealed to them to make sure that BJP’s candidate did not win.
