AGACAIM: The mystery surrounding the death of fishing boat owner Manjunath Harikant, whose body was recovered from the Zuari River earlier this week, has taken a dramatic turn with Agacaim Police arresting two labourers from Nagpur for their alleged involvement in the murder.
Police sources confirmed that the two accused have been detained and are being brought to Agacaim Police Station for further investigation. The motive behind the crime and the weapon allegedly used in the murder are yet to be officially disclosed, with investigators continuing to piece together the sequence of events that led to Harikant’s death.
The case had triggered widespread concern within the fishing community after Harikant’s body was found floating in the Zuari River and recovered by Agacaim Police. Initially, police had registered an unnatural death case and launched an inquiry into the circumstances surrounding the incident.
However, fellow fishing boat owners and members of the fishing community had expressed strong suspicion that Harikant’s death was not accidental. They had alleged foul play and demanded a thorough investigation, claiming that the small-scale boat owner, who had been operating from Kharewada for several years, may have been murdered and his body disposed of in the river.
The allegations gained momentum as fishermen and boat owners questioned the circumstances under which Harikant went missing before his body was recovered. Several members of the community had urged police to investigate all possible angles, including murder.
Following sustained investigation, Agacaim Police reportedly gathered crucial evidence leading to the arrest of the two labourers from Nagpur. The arrests are expected to provide investigators with vital leads regarding the motive and the events leading to Harikant’s death.
Police are likely to conduct further interrogation of the accused after they are brought to Goa. More details regarding the murder, including the circumstances of the crime, are expected to emerge as the investigation progresses.
The breakthrough has brought some relief to members of the fishing community, who had been demanding answers since Harikant’s body was recovered from the Zuari River under mysterious circumstances.
