Panaji: The All India Trade Union Congress (AITUC) has declared a nationwide one-day strike on February 12, 2026, aligning with various central trade unions and farmers’ bodies in protest against what it terms as anti-worker and anti-farmer decisions of the government.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, AITUC said the strike has been organised to oppose key policy measures such as the rollout of the Labour Codes, privatisation of public sector enterprises, growing contractual employment, and what it described as the weakening of long-standing labour protections. According to the union, these developments have negatively affected employment stability, wage security, and social welfare benefits for a vast section of the workforce.
The organisation also pointed to several pending demands, including the implementation of statutory minimum wages across sectors, universal social security coverage, and safeguarding of public sector units. In addition, AITUC reiterated support for farmers’ concerns, particularly the demand for a legally guaranteed Minimum Support Price (MSP) and stronger measures to protect agricultural livelihoods.
In Goa, the union stated that the strike would spotlight unresolved labour-related grievances in different sectors and urged workers, farmers, and employees to extend full support to the agitation.
AITUC maintained that the countrywide protest is intended to compel the government to review its policies and initiate constructive discussions with representatives of trade unions and farmers’ organisations.
