PONDA: Marcaim MLA and Power Minister Sudin Dhavlikar said that the tender for renovation work on the walking track and other works worth Rs 1 crore for Bahusaheb Bandodkar Ground at Kashimutt Bandora has been floated.
He said that it would be given a unique look for the ground during various desi games.
Besides renovating the old walking track, there would be a new one.
He was replying to critics on the temporary closure of the ground for the public from 20 December onward until further notice, about which notice has been displayed at the ground entrance.
Some locals had said the ground is closed, but no renovation work is shown.
Sudin replying to critics, said though a work order for renovation work was issued, the work was delayed by two months due to some reasons, including rains and the annual program on the ground, but it would begin soon. He said the ground would remain closed for football and other games for at least one year on account of renovation work which would begin soon. However, the walking track will be available for people in the morning and evening.
He said the renovation of the ground is being taken after demands from people for providing facilities for Desi games, and so plans are made to make this unique ground one for other games. Besides the football ground, there would be a practice pitch for Cricket small ground for Kabbadi, gaining popularity.
There would be a 6000 square meters area for kids, one stage, cycle track.
“New walking track would be taken first, and later old track would be renovated, and all the works would begin from this week,” he said.
