PANAJI: A new bi-weekly express train connecting Goa with Mumbai’s western suburbs was inaugurated on Wednesday in the presence of Union Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal and Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw. The service is expected to improve direct rail connectivity between the Konkan belt and Mumbai’s suburban region.
The inaugural Margao–Bandra Terminus journey is scheduled for June 3, with the train departing Margao Railway Station at 7.40 am and arriving at Bandra Terminus at 11.40 pm on the same day.
Speaking during the launch, Piyush Goyal said the introduction of the service addresses a long-pending demand from passengers seeking direct train access between Bandra, Borivali and various stations along the Konkan route.
According to railway officials, Train No. 10115, the Bandra–Margao Express, will operate every Wednesday and Friday. The train will leave Bandra Terminus at 6.50 am and reach Margao at 10 pm.
In the return direction, Train No. 10116, the Margao–Bandra Express, will run every Tuesday and Thursday, departing Margao at 7.40 am and arriving in Bandra at 11.40 pm.
The train will halt at several important stations in both directions, including Borivali, Vasai Road, Bhiwandi Road, Panvel, Roha, Veer, Chiplun, Ratnagiri, Kankavli, Sindhudurg, Sawantwadi Road, Thivim and Karmali.
Railway authorities said the new service is expected to benefit daily commuters, tourists and passengers travelling between Goa and Mumbai’s suburban belt by offering improved connectivity and convenience.
