BETUL: The Oil and Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC) has clarified that the Betul Jetty at its Advanced Training Institute (ATI) in Goa is still under construction and has not yet been formally commissioned. The clarification follows reports regarding damage to a section of the pontoon jetty.
According to ONGC, the jetty was made temporarily operational during India Energy Week (IEW) 2026 to facilitate limited water-based movement after necessary safety measures were put in place. However, construction and enhancement work on the project has continued since then.
ONGC stated that while the height of the pontoon jetty was being increased to improve safety and operational resilience, severe adverse weather and cyclonic sea conditions damaged a portion of the under-construction pontoon. The lift and connecting gangway providing access to the pontoon were not affected and remain intact.
Following the incident, ONGC ATI and the executing agency secured the site and initiated a detailed technical assessment. Corrective engineering measures are currently being implemented, and the damaged section will be restored based on expert recommendations.
Reaffirming its commitment to safety and engineering excellence, ONGC said the project will be completed only after all necessary technical measures are incorporated and the jetty fully complies with prescribed safety and operational standards before being commissioned.
