PANAJI: The Integrated Command and Control Centre setup as part of the Imagin Panaji Smart City was commissioned today. With this 382 CCTVs will now keep a watch over Panaji, Old Goa, Pilar and Porvorim.
Panaji Smart City Development Limited (IPSCDL) has set up a Goa Intelligent City Management System (GICMS). The Rs 180 crore project was completed by 30th November 2021 and went live on 13 December 2021.
GICMS smart city has an integrated command and control center (ICCC) set up at the IT hub, Altinho, for all-around surveillance in Panaji, Old Goa, Corlim, Porvorim, and other entry points in the state. Powered with Information communication and technology sensors and cameras to keep track of traffic violations, crime, theft, etc.
Mos Tourism Shripad Naik who was present for the inauguration said that this project was given to all smart cities in India and IPSCDL has completed this project in Panaji.
“All violations, accidents and law breaking incidents will no be captured in the command and control centre. Entire surveillance will be done from this comman and control. Various govt agencies will get benefit from this. A watch will be kept on the entire city,” said Naik
The Union MoS also said that all illegal incidents will be captured and as of now this project is only for Panaji but will be extended for coastal areas soon.
Goa Tourism Minister Rohan Khaunte said that its a good initiatve to ensure that law and order situation, accident cases and other violations are maintained.
“This symtem needs to utilised the full way to ensure that Goa is given that safe and secure status. This becomes the main backbone to assit the Goa Police. To ensure good tourism such suppot systems are necessary,” said Khaunte speaking to the media
It will have sensors and cameras to keep track of the traffic violations, crime, theft, littering, pollution emissions, solid waste, and smart city lighting, along with WiFi hotspots in about 500 locations in Panaji.
In June 2018, Larsen and Toubro (L&T) won the GICMS contract and installed 100 smart CCTV cameras out of the total 338 cameras. These high resolutions and advanced cameras can recognise faces and number plates. It can automatically generate traffic violation challans.
The major hurdle for the GICMS project is the delay in permissions. L&T notes that the permissions for digging, laying fibre cables and road cutting are difficult to obtain. The process is further complicated due to the unmarked utility lines along the roads.
L&T is also planning for smart parking at the EDC Patto complex. It will have 1,000 sensors at the parking slots. These sensors will identify the vacant slots and display them on the LED board at the entry point. Online payment has also been introduced for paying for parking.
