SALIGAO: Air and Land Pollution caused by the open burning of crop residue is currently a major pain-point for the various states across India. The Goa Energy Development Agency (GEDA) along with Punjab Renewable Energy Systems Private Limited (PRESPL) has come up with the solution to curb the pollution by aggregating and converting Tree & Bio waste into Green Fuel i.e. Biomass Briquettes. The proposed Biomass based Renewable Energy Project is first of its kind in Goa, which will not only reduce the open dumping and burning but also decreasing carbon footprint by replacing fossil fuels with biomass briquettes. Hence raising the spirit of “Swachha Bharat Abhiyan”, vision of our Honorable Prime Minister Shri. Narendra Modi Ji. The utilization of plant and tree residues in the briquetting industry can save tremendous harm the environment on open burning and extensive air pollution.
GEDA had floated a tender to invite developers to set up a biomass briquetting project with a processing capacity of 2,000 kg per hour. The project will be located at Saligao, Bardez in Goa and will be set up under a design, build, operate, finance, and transfer basis for ten years. PRESPL successfully applied for this tender and secured the work order to set up this biomass briquetting plant. PRESPL will be using tree waste, tender coconut waste, coconut leaves waste and other biomass available in the region for the installation of the biomass project. Further, a grid-connected solar project will be set up on the rooftops of the plant. GEDA will provide 3,520 square meters of land at the project site, free of cost, to PRESPL
Punjab Renewable Energy Systems Private Limited (PRESPL), is the ‘Leading Indigenous’ Indian entrepreneur-cum-contributor in Biomass Supply Chain Management, in India, since 2011. PRESPL has served the farmers and the industry with amicable Bio-Energy and Biomass solutions through acceptable business models; while enabling the villagers to gain entrepreneurial acumen, and PRESPL has spearheaded the Biomass Sphere by contributing to Policy Making, Technology Enhancements and has also taken up intricate and detailed Biomass Assessment Studies, across the spectrum of India and some abroad; to enable an accurate understanding of the varied trends in biomass availability, it’s consumption pattern; while also identifying potential locations on basis of analysis of both secondary and primary levels data.
This project has been proposed with an aim to sensitize the local community at large about the importance of waste management, health hazards caused by burning or decomposing it in the open fields. Besides, we aim to empower the enterprising lot among the local population with appropriate training and development programs to participate in biomass supply chain and then densifying the fuel to briquette. Other aims include, organizing “Swachh Bharat” campaign and social forestry across the project area.
