PANAJI: The Goa Pradesh Congress Committee has launched a sharp attack on the BJP-led government over the delay in road repair and hot mixing works across the state, alleging that the ruling dispensation has been exposed by its own leaders.
Addressing the issue, Congress Media and Communication Department Chairman Amarnath Panjikar said statements made publicly by BJP Ministers, MLAs and contractors blaming one another for the poor condition of roads have revealed a complete breakdown of governance and coordination within the government.
Panjikar said that when senior BJP leaders themselves express frustration over stalled projects and damaged roads, it directly raises questions about the leadership of Chief Minister Dr. Pramod Sawant. He pointed to recent remarks made by Tourism Minister Rohan Khaunte and Deputy Speaker Joshua D’Souza, claiming that their public criticism reflects the government’s inability to effectively manage infrastructure projects.
Questioning accountability, Panjikar asked whether responsibility for the current situation lies with PWD Minister Digambar Kamat or the Chief Minister. He said the people of Goa deserve clear answers instead of excuses.
With the monsoon approaching, Panjikar expressed concern over roads that remain dug up, damaged or incomplete across various parts of the state. He said commuters, students, senior citizens and motorists continue to face daily hardships and safety risks due to delayed works.
Describing the situation as unprecedented, Panjikar alleged that contractors are blaming the government, Ministers are blaming contractors and MLAs are blaming departments, creating what he termed an atmosphere of administrative paralysis.
The Congress leader accused the BJP government of being inefficient and insensitive to public concerns, stating that instead of delivering roads and infrastructure, it is engaged in shifting responsibility and manufacturing scapegoats.
He further demanded an explanation for the slowdown in hot mixing works and questioned whether the delays were caused by poor planning, lack of coordination or disputes within the system.
Panjikar said that people are not concerned about internal political differences within the ruling establishment but expect safe roads, effective governance and accountability from those in power.
Calling for immediate intervention, he urged Chief Minister Dr. Pramod Sawant to personally ensure that all pending road repair and hot mixing works are completed on a war footing before the monsoon intensifies. He warned that continued delays could increase the risk of accidents, traffic congestion, vehicle damage and public inconvenience.
Concluding his criticism, Panjikar said Goa deserves accountable governance and efficient infrastructure delivery rather than blame games and internal conflicts within the government.
