CANACONA: The body of the missing angler, one amongst the three anglers who were thrown off a rock by strong waves while fishing, was recovered from the sea waters at Cabo-de-Rama on Monday. Two others swam back to the shore at the same time, while a search was launched for the missing person since the incident of Sunday afternoon.
According to Cuncolim police, the dead body of Shaba Velip S/o. Bhikru Velip, age 53yrs a resident of Kuddem, Cola, is fished out from the sea waters off Cabo-de-Rama coast by local people and fishermen.
Velip along with two others had accidentally drowned in the seawater on Sunday later afternoon when he along with two others who were fishing on a Sea –Rock were thrown into the sea after a huge sea wave splashed the rock all three were fishing on. While the two other anglers swam back on the shore, strong waves pulled Shaba into the deep waters and immediately went missing as the locals and fishermen launched a hunt looking out for him.
A missing complaint was reportedly filed at the Cuncolim police station.
After the locals and fishermen themselves recovered the dead body a day later on Monday, Cuncolim police conducted the inquest panchnama and the dead body was referred for PM examination. Police surgeon conducted an autopsy on the dead body and certified the cause of death as “Asphyxia as a result of drowning in water”
Police further informed the dead body was handed over to family and final rites were conducted. Cuncolim PSI Sahil S Pagui is conducting further inquiry.
