Margao: The hearing in the BPS Club land matter before the Inspector of Survey and Land Records was adjourned to June 11, 2026, after representatives of the Margao Municipal Council sought additional time to file a reply.
According to information shared after the hearing, no representative from the BPS Club appeared before the authority during the proceedings.
Assistant Engineer Vinay appeared on behalf of the Margao Municipal Council with instructions to seek a fresh date for submission of the council’s reply.
Shadow Council for Margao Convener J P Savio Coutinho, who informed the authority about an intervention application moved in the matter, also sought copies of documents relied upon by the club for confirmation of records.
Reacting to the proceedings, Coutinho alleged that the absence of club representatives from the hearing was deliberate. He further claimed that the club management, headed by President Yogiraj Digamber Kamat, had chosen not to attend while ensuring that the Chief Officer sought an adjournment.\n\nCoutinho said there were apprehensions that the delay strategy was linked to the end of the present council’s term on May 26 and the expected appointment of an administrator thereafter.\n\nHe stated that a transparent process was necessary in the larger public interest and maintained that if the club possessed all relevant documents, there should be no obstacle to the confirmation process.\n\nCoutinho further alleged that certain members within the club appeared “agitated” over the intervention application seeking transparency in the proceedings.\n\nThe Shadow Council stated that the BPS Club land issue had become a matter of public discussion, particularly among residents of Margao, and said public debate on the matter was necessary.\n\nReferring to the BPS Club land and Rajendra Prasad Stadium land, Coutinho alleged that both public assets were presently being used for private or commercial purposes without revenue accruing to the owner.\n\nThe matter will next be heard on June 11, 2026.
