COLVALE: A disturbing case of animal cruelty has surfaced in Colvale, where police have registered an offence against an unidentified person after a burnt dog carcass was discovered.
The incident came to light on Saturday night following a call alerting authorities about the carcass in the Chicalim–Colvale area. On reaching the spot, police found the remains of a dog with a chain still around its neck. A wooden stick, along with pieces of cardboard and cloth, were also recovered nearby, raising suspicions of deliberate abuse.
Local residents alerted officials from the District Society for Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (DSPCA), who visited the scene along with Colvale police. A panchanama was conducted, and the carcass was sent for post-mortem examination.
The autopsy, carried out on April 20, revealed shocking details — the dog had allegedly been beaten to death with a hard object, such as a rod, before its body was set on fire.
Police have registered a case under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act, 1960. Further investigation is underway to identify those responsible.
