CURCHOREM: Minister Nilesh Cabral has warned that any illegal encroachment on the roadside of PWD land will face strong action.
He said this law applies to not only a few but to every illegal encroachment on PWD land.
The illegal encroachment on PWD land on the roadside by fisherman and vegetable vendors before the Sanvordem bridge has become a point of discussion as it hampers teh vehicular movements and can cause accidents.
Cabral said that currently, it is a temporary market, but soon people will start building permanent structures without any permission.
He said action would be taken on such activities anywhere if the encroachment is seen on PWD land.
He also specified that the action would not only be for the Sanvordem market but anywhere in Goa.
When pointed out that the vendors are paying SOPO to the municipality, he said, sopo collection means a temporary collection of taxes for conducting business in municipal jurisdiction.
“It doesn’t mean that the paying sopo will allow developing permanent structure in encroachment land.
The sopo means temporary taxes collected from temporary vendors,” he added.
