CALANGUTE: The investigation into the death of Sandeep Salian (42), a tourism entrepreneur from Karnataka, has taken a significant turn with Goa Police registering a case of murder after he was found dead at a guest house near Calangute Beach.
Salian, a resident of Malpe in Udupi district, had travelled to Goa a few days before the incident. He was discovered dead under circumstances that prompted police to initiate a detailed investigation.
While the death was initially being treated as suspicious, investigators have now invoked murder charges based on the findings of the preliminary inquiry. Officials have not yet disclosed the specific evidence that led to the registration of the case, stating that the investigation is at a crucial stage.
Police are working to reconstruct Salian’s movements in Goa, examining CCTV footage, questioning individuals who may have met him during his stay, and collecting forensic evidence from the guest house.
The body has been sent for a post-mortem examination, and investigators are awaiting the medical findings to help establish the precise cause of death.
Salian was known in coastal Karnataka for his tourism business, operating water sports and tourist boat services in Malpe. He had also been associated with former Karnataka minister and BJP leader Pramod Madhwaraj, serving as his personal aide before later moving away from political activities.
Goa Police said the investigation is continuing on all possible angles, and further details are expected as forensic and medical reports become available.
