CANACONA: Armed with Court directives, Canacona municipality has sealed an illegally operating Tourism establishment sans any permits or licenses at Patnem in Canacona.
Taking a strong view on mushrooming of illegal structures in the No Development Zone, High Court has directed Canacona Mamlatdar and Canacona Municipality to immediately seal the structures to prevent their any use in whatsoever manner and also passed a restraining order to the persons associated with the structure from carrying out any commercial activities in the said structures.
Acting on the directives, CMC Chief Officer Madhu Narvekar, along with Municipal Engineer and Municipal Inspector proceeded to the illegally operating structure at Patnem and applied locks to complete the Sealing process of the premises.
When asked CMC Chairperson Ramakant Naikgaunkar confirmed that the alleged illegal tourism structures had not been issued with any permission by Canacona Municipality, whereas the owners were highhandedly conducting tourism trade/activities.
Earlier Department of Electricity has also cut off an illegally tapped power connection to the said illegal tourism establishments. According to Canacona AE Govind Bhat, department’s Vigilance team found electricity/power- supply is tapped from a residential house connection (domestic connection) to this property, which was later disconnected and the supply was stopped.
Interestingly, the High Court directives came in a writ petition filed by one Arvind Sinai Nagarsenkar . Besides operating the illegal establishments without permits and licenses, the respondents were also accused of illegally tapping Electricity and making Water provisions to conduct tourism businesses in the structures.
