PANAJI: The inaugural edition of Amdar Chasak 1.0 is set to begin on Monday at the Shristhal Panchayat Ground, with 16 teams from across the Canacona constituency competing in a three day tennis ball cricket tournament.
The tournament, scheduled from May 11 to May 13, will be played in a day night format under floodlights and carries a winner’s prize of ₹5 lakh along with a rolling crystal trophy. The runners up will receive ₹3 lakh and a trophy, while the losing semi finalists will be awarded ₹1 lakh each. Several individual prizes will also be presented during the tournament.
Ahead of the event, Ramesh Tawadkar unveiled the rolling crystal trophy, other tournament trophies, and team jerseys during a launch function held at Ravindra Bhavan on Saturday.
A total of 16 teams representing six village panchayats and the Canacona Municipal Council will participate in the competition. The teams include one from Agonda, two each from Shristhal, Gaondongrim, Khotigao, Poinguinim, and Loliem Polem, along with six teams representing the municipality area.
The participating sides have been divided into four groups, with league matches to be played in a round robin format during the daytime and under floodlights in the evening. Organisers stated that only players belonging to their respective panchayats or the municipality area are eligible to represent their local teams.
The tournament will also mark the formal inauguration and handover of the newly developed Shristhal ground built by the Directorate of Sports and Youth Affairs to the Shristhal Panchayat before the opening match.
During the media briefing, Sports Minister Ramesh Tawadkar, along with organising committee members Abhijeet Desai and Shirish Pai, outlined the tournament structure, rules, and arrangements for the event.
