CANACONA: Canacona Police have registered an Unnatural Death case after a 70-year-old woman from Bhupar, Gaondongrim, died while undergoing treatment at Goa Medical College (GMC), Bambolim, following injuries sustained in a fall at her cashew plantation.
According to police, on 31 May 2026 at 09:37 hrs, a wireless message was received from the casualty department of GMC Bambolim informing that Laxmi Gaonkar (70) had expired, with the initial case reported as a self-fall.
During enquiry, it was revealed that the deceased had fallen at her cashew plantation approximately 15 days earlier while plucking cashew apples. She subsequently developed stomach pain and was admitted to GMC Bambolim for treatment, where she later succumbed.
Police conducted inquest and scene panchanama, and the body was shifted for post-mortem examination. The autopsy was conducted by the police surgeon, who certified the cause of death as “peritonitis and shock consequent to septic uterus.”
After completion of medico-legal formalities, the body was handed over to family members for final rites.
