CORTALIM: In a major boost, the Sarpanch and panch members from Cansualim panchayat have extended their full support to the candidature of Marciana Vas, the wife of Cortalim MLA Anton Vas, who is contesting the ZP bye poll elections from Cortalim.
The Cansaulim panchayat Sarpanch Savio Pereira during a packed corner meeting at Cansualim on Wednesday said that there was no better option than Merciana Vas to bring in a lot of development works as the ZP of the Cortalim jurisdiction.
“We have seen the works of Anton Vas as the ZP, and he achieved 100 per cent of the manifesto as the ZP in 2015, which led to his historic victory with the highest margin in Goa during the 2020 ZP Elections. After he became the MLA, he had to resign as the ZP, and we have now endorsed the candidature of his wife for the ZP Elections. Former ZP Anton Vas had put in a lot of progressive work, but his term was not completed, and we feel that there is no better person than his wife Merciana Vas to take up the pending works as the ZP of Cortalim, and we have decided to suport her fully” said Pereira.
Former Sarpanch and present panch Jose Maria Furtado said that people have decided to support Merciana Vas.
“We are people’s representatives, and we have to stand by their decision. As the Sarpanch, I have seen the works of Anton Vas closely, and we have seen how he has taken up a lot of development works and grown to be the MLA from the grassroots level. We now have to elect someone who has the same connection with the people and can take up work like him, and there is no better candidate then his wife, Marciana Vas, who has been with him all these years and supported him in taking up the development works as the ZP. She has political experience and is a well-known social worker as well, and we will support her because it will help the people get their work done with her husband as the MLA of the Constituency,” said Furtado.
Social worker Roquezinho D’Souza said he was happy that the newly elected Sarpanch Savio Periera, along with other panch members, had decided to extend support to the candidature of Marciana Vas.
