PANAJI: CCP Mayor Rohit Monserrate has voiced his opposition to bars in the Sao Tome area of Panaji operating until 5 a.m., stating that stricter discipline is needed among establishments holding bar trade licences.
Monserrate said the Corporation does not intend to privatise the Captain of Ports jetty or the building located at the jetty. He stressed that the administration would instead focus on bringing greater regulation and discipline to the bar trade.
“I am especially not in favour of bars remaining open until 5 a.m. in the Sao Tome area of Panaji,” Monserrate said, underlining concerns over the late-night functioning of bars in the locality.
Meanwhile, the Campal Football Ground could soon be handed over to the Corporation of the City of Panaji (CCP).
Panaji MLA and Minister Atanasio Monserrate has written to the Urban Development Department requesting that the ground be transferred to the CCP. The move was welcomed by the CCP Council, which thanked and congratulated the minister for taking the initiative.
The proposed transfer is expected to bring the football ground under the corporation’s administration and could pave the way for more organised management and maintenance of the facility.
