PANAJI: Chief Minister Pramod Sawant has indicated that the Central government may consider providing relaxation in post-10 pm music restrictions for Goa, citing the state’s tourism-dependent economy and vibrant nightlife sector.
Speaking on the issue, Sawant said Prime Minister Narendra Modi has assured that Goa’s concerns regarding sound regulations would be examined. The state government has been consistently requesting the Centre to review existing noise pollution rules to accommodate tourism and entertainment activities in designated areas.
The Goa government has maintained that strict enforcement of the current sound regulations has affected nightlife businesses, beach tourism, destination weddings and the hospitality sector, all of which contribute significantly to the state’s economy.
Over the past several months, stakeholders from the tourism industry have urged authorities to permit regulated music activities beyond 10 pm in specific tourism zones while ensuring that residential areas are not disturbed.
Sawant expressed hope that the Centre would take a balanced approach by considering both environmental concerns and the practical requirements of Goa’s tourism industry.
The issue has remained a key point of discussion between the Goa government and the Centre amid increasing demand from tourism operators for policy reforms related to nightlife and entertainment activities in the state.
