PANAJI: A 10 day Summer Football Camp organised by Kick Off Football Schools in collaboration with PACT Foundation concluded on Sunday with a colourful closing ceremony at the A.A. de Moira Ground in Moira.
The grassroots football initiative brought together more than 72 young footballers from the Aldona constituency, with boys and girls between the ages of 6 and 14 participating in the camp. Organisers said the programme was designed to provide equal access to professional football training irrespective of gender or financial background.
Among those present at the closing ceremony were Carlos Alvares Ferreira, Ashwin Fernandes, Caetano Cardozo, Oscar Lobo, Andrea Fernandes, and Jonas Fernandes.
The organisers highlighted that the initiative aligned with six United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, including Good Health and Well Being, Quality Education, Gender Equality, Reduced Inequalities, Sustainable Communities, and Partnerships for the Goals.
Addressing the children, MLA Carlos Alvares Ferreira encouraged them to remain disciplined and focused in both sports and academics. He emphasised the importance of setting goals in life and said success comes from aiming high and consistently working towards one’s ambitions.
Dr Ashwin Fernandes drew inspiration from legendary Goan footballer Brahmanand Sankhwalkar, reminding participants that even great champions often begin their journeys on simple village grounds. He praised the enthusiasm shown by the girl participants and said inclusivity remained central to the spirit of the camp.
Head Coach Jonas Fernandes said the initiative was about more than football training, adding that it aimed to build confidence, discipline, teamwork, and character among the children.
The camp was supported on the ground by A.A. de Moira. The closing ceremony also included the felicitation of coaches and the distribution of medals and certificates to all participants.
