CANACONA: The old Sulabh Sauchalaya is finally demolished to make way for the new 67- lakhs worth 7-seater Sulabh Toilet block for which the foundation stone laying ceremony was held two months ago.
Incidentally, the name plaque of the Foundation Stone which was installed on the wall of the existing Toilet block and ceremoniously inaugurated at the hands of Speaker and Canacona MLA Ramesh Tawadkar is also razed and brought down is part of the broken debris/remains of the demolished structure.
Interestingly,
Neither the contractor nor the working party took note and salvaged the Foundation Stone Plaque carrying the names of the Speaker, CMC Chairperson and other dignitaries present for the ceremony.
A new toilet is being constructed near Canacona’s old bus station after demolishing the existing toilet built in the year 2000. The foundation stone was laid on 27th July on the occasion of the birthday celebrations of Speaker Ramesh Tawadkar, unveiling the name plaque during the.
Shortly later, this name plaque was installed on the building of the old toilet. The same was however, smashed and turned into small pieces as the JCB was used for demolition, instead of safely removing the name plaque and keeping it safe.
While the ward councillor Ramakant Naik Gaonkar, who is also CMC ex-chairperson wants the contractor to replace the broken foundation stone laying plaque with a new one, sources in the Canacona Municipal Councill Chairperson informed that the contractor will be asked to prepare and new name-plate and install/fix it accordingly after the new Sulabh block is ready for inauguration.
The new 7-seater Sulabh Toilet Complex at Chaudi, Canacona is built under the Swachh Bharat mission.
