VASCO: Transport Minister Mauvin Godinho on Tuesday evening said that there was a new scheme on the cards where every family which loses a member due to an accident could get Rs 2 lakhs.
Godinho was speaking to reporters after Inaugurating a community toilet built under ZP Funds in the presence of Cortalim MLA Anton Vas, Sancoale ZP Anita Thorat, Sancoale Sarpanch Rohini Toraskar, Dy Sarpanch Girish Pillai and others.
“There was a scheme for accidental compensation claims, but the procedure was not finalised properly, and this claim had to be filed six months after an accidental death. After I took over as the minister, I cleared all the applications and paid compensation of Rs 2 lakh to every person who had filed the claim,” he said.
Finally, he added, he had a discussion with the CM, Dr Pramod Sawant, and we decided that there would be a one-time scheme and we offer Rs 2 lakhs compensation for all the people who had actually died in the road accidents and had applied for this scheme, even if it was not within the six-month time frame.
“I have cleared every application we have received in this accidental compensation claim because it is very difficult, especially when a poor family loses a member due to a road accident. This happened after a young girl died near the Chicalim Panchayat in a road accident some months ago, and I felt for her and her family, and because of her, the entire Goa will benefit from this scheme by making it easy and simple,” he said.
Godinho said the CM, Dr Pramod Sawant, has improved this even further and said that not only accident victims but anyone who dies in Goa must immediately get Rs 2 lakhs and route it through the Transport Department, and we will immediately give help of Rs 2 lakhs to the family who loses any member. This is the new scheme through the Transport department, and the CM, Dr Pramod Sawant, has given me full support,” said Godinho.
