MARGAO: The Margao Congress Block Committee has accused officials and elected representatives of the Margao Municipal Council (MMC) of tampering with official records linked to a recent council meeting and has decided to lodge a formal police complaint in the matter.
Speaking to reporters, party representatives claimed that discrepancies were found in the recorded minutes of a special council meeting held on March 30 concerning the proposed outsourcing of door-to-door garbage collection services in the town.
According to the Congress leaders, several councillors had opposed taking a final decision on the tender during the meeting, arguing that the matter should be left for the newly elected council to decide since the current council’s term was nearing completion.
The party further alleged that although the issue was reportedly set aside during the discussion, the final minutes later reflected decisions and approvals that were allegedly never passed by the council.
Congress leaders said the proposed complaint would name the MMC chairperson, chief officer and four councillors in connection with the alleged irregularities.
Apart from approaching the police, the party also plans to move the Directorate of Municipal Administration (DMA), demanding action against the officials concerned and seeking intervention before the disputed meeting minutes are confirmed at the next council session.
