PANAJI: Goa Pradesh Congress Committee Media and Communication Department Chairman Amarnath Panjikar has criticised the BJP government over the delay in clearing a disruption near the Chief Minister’s official residence at Altinho, claiming the incident exposed serious shortcomings in the state’s disaster management and emergency response systems.
Panjikar said the nearly two-hour delay in restoring normalcy contradicted the government’s claims of preparedness and efficient governance. He questioned how citizens in remote areas could expect prompt assistance if authorities were unable to respond swiftly in a high-priority zone near the Chief Minister’s residence.
According to Panjikar, the incident highlighted a gap between the government’s public image and its on-ground performance. He alleged that while substantial resources are spent on projecting efficiency, the administration failed to demonstrate the same during a real emergency situation.
The Congress leader further stated that governance under the BJP had become reactive and disconnected from the challenges faced by ordinary citizens. He alleged that administrative accountability had weakened while greater emphasis was being placed on publicity and image management.
Demanding an explanation from the government, Panjikar said the public deserved to know why it took such a long time to clear the obstruction and restore normalcy in a sensitive area. He described the episode as a symbol of administrative failure and said it had raised concerns about the effectiveness of the state’s emergency response mechanism.
Panjikar concluded by asserting that the incident had exposed what he termed as a lack of accountability and governance within the BJP-led administration.
