PANAJI: Goa Pradesh Congress Committee Media and Communication Department Chairman Amarnath Panjikar on Friday criticised the BJP government over claims that 22,000 government jobs would be created in the State, saying Goa needed governance and accountability instead of “magic shows.”
The sharp reaction came after Health Minister Vishwajit Rane reportedly described Chief Minister Pramod Sawant as a “magician” capable of generating thousands of government jobs.
Addressing the media, Panjikar alleged that the BJP government was attempting to divert attention from unemployment and governance failures through “political fantasy and headline management.”
He questioned why thousands of vacancies had allegedly remained unfilled for years if such posts genuinely existed in government departments. He also raised concerns over delays in recruitment processes and the growing frustration among unemployed youth in Goa.
“The people of Goa elected a government to govern the State, not to perform magic tricks,” Panjikar said, adding that educated youth were increasingly facing unemployment, contractual labour and migration in search of opportunities.
The Congress leader further accused the BJP government of focusing more on publicity campaigns and event management than on employment generation and administration.
Panjikar also demanded that the government release a department-wise list of vacancies, recruitment timelines, reservation details and a transparent mechanism to ensure fair hiring practices.
He claimed that the youth of Goa were seeking employment opportunities, transparency and honest governance rather than “illusionary promises and political propaganda.”
