PANAJI: The High Court has issued notices to the respondents on a public interest litigation filed by activist Kashinath Shetye, challenging the closure of a 2015 case involving then Police Sub-Inspector Gouresh Malik, who had allegedly shot himself with his service weapon.
Malik, who is presently posted as Police Inspector at Old Goa, was serving as a Police Sub-Inspector when the incident occurred.
Through the PIL, Shetye has questioned the manner in which the case was closed and has sought a fresh investigation by the Crime Branch into the circumstances surrounding the incident.
The petitioner has also raised concerns over the use of “A-Summary” closure reports and urged the High Court to frame appropriate guidelines governing their filing.
The plea seeks safeguards to ensure that such closure reports are not submitted or accepted mechanically in cases involving serious allegations or circumstances requiring further investigation.
