Panaji: The Goa Pradesh Congress Party workers on Wednesday gheraoed the officials of the Social Welfare department and the Directorate of Accounts over the non-payments of monthly pensions to DSSS and Grha Aadhar Beneficiaries.
The morcha was led by GPCC vice president Sankalp Amonkar and the spokespersons Amarnath Panjikar amongst other leaders.
The volunteers first gheraoed the social welfare officers who told them the bills have been sent to the Accounts department four months ago.
“The social Welfare department tells us the Bills have been raised four months ago whereas the Accounts department says they have not received any bills,” said Amonkar.
He questioned the Congress and people of Goa want to know who is fooling the people.
“The Dy Director accounts says we have enough money to pay the bills. So we ask why the poor people are left at lurch. The people are dependent for DSSS for monthly medicines etc,” he said
Panjikar asked if the Bills were raised four months ago and have not reached the Account department where have they dissappeared.
“People have not got money for 8 months. Contractors have not been paid. Poor are suffering and the government is busy doing “settings”,” he said.
He also questioned the silence of Social Welfare Minister Milind Naik.
