SANKHALIM: A 37-year-old daily wage labourer was found unresponsive near a temple site in Navelim, Sankhalim, and later declared brought dead, police said.
The incident came to light on April 26 at around 11:31 pm after a medical memo was received from Community Health Centre Sankhalim stating that the man, identified as Chhatukumar Mahato (37), had been brought dead by a 108 ambulance from the vicinity of Sateri Temple at Navelim.
Mahato, originally from Raigad district in Maharashtra and currently residing at Navelim, was working as a daily wage labourer. Preliminary enquiries revealed that he was a chronic alcoholic.
Police conducted a scene of occurrence inspection and inquest panchanama before shifting the body to Goa Medical College and Hospital for preservation and further legal formalities.
A post-mortem examination conducted on April 27 attributed the cause of death to “consolidation of both lungs,” indicating a serious underlying medical condition.
An unnatural death case has been registered, and further inquiry is being carried out by PSI Akash Parwa.
