VASCO: Goa State Pollution Control Board assured to take cognisance of the issue of dead fishes surfacing in the Vaddem lake. Vaddem lake is infested with moss and plastic bottles.
There is no ending to the miseries faced by the once beautiful Vaddem lake. It is about dead fishes that surfaced in the lake water on Friday morning.
As per the available information, some joggers who came for the morning walk noticed a few big fish in dead condition floating in the Vaddem lake. This alarmed some citizens who circulated the photographs of dead fishes from the lake on social media platforms.
When Goemkarponn reporter visited the site, by then, these dead fishes were fishes out from the water by a few locals along with some moss.
The lake water seems to be murky and releases a foul smell due to water stagnation. There are many empty plastic bottles floating along with the green moss in this lake.‘Goa First’ NGO’s Parshuram Sonurlekar has slammed the concerned authorities for failing to do timely maintenance of this Vaddem lake. Sonurlekar said that some years back, this Vaddem lake would get water from the Arabian Sea, and there was a flow of water, but in recent times for some unknown reasons, this water flow is not happening, and due to this, there is an infestation of moss and pollution of water.
He further said that agencies like Goa State Pollution Control Board should do a water sample testing of Vaddem lake water, and an inspection needs to be done of this lake.
Meanwhile, when contacted Shamila Monteiro, GSPCB chairman, she assured to look into the matter.
