DHARBANDORA: A 55-year-old man from Dharbandora was found dead after his body was seen floating in the Dudhsagar River at Kormonem, Kirlapal, Dabal.
According to police, the incident came to light on May 27, 2026, at around 2:40 pm after Seby Fernandes, a resident of Dabal, Kirlapal, informed authorities that a male body was floating in the river at Kormonem.
During enquiry, police visited the Dudhsagar River at Ghotimol, Kormonem, Kirlapal, Dabal, Dharbandora, where the body was identified as that of Shambu Velip, aged 55, a resident of Ghotimol, Kormonem.
Police enquiries revealed that the deceased was mentally unstable and was undergoing treatment. He reportedly had a habit of leaving home late at night without informing family members and roaming around the village and nearby forest areas.
Further investigation revealed that on May 26 at around 11:30 pm, the deceased had left his house without informing anyone. Despite search efforts by family members, he was later found floating in the Dudhsagar River in the village on May 27.
Police conducted the scene of unnatural death occurrence panchanama and inquest proceedings before shifting the body to South Goa District Hospital, Margao, for post-mortem examination.
The police surgeon who conducted the autopsy certified the cause of death as “asphyxia as a result of drowning in water.”
After completion of formalities, the body was handed over to family members for final religious rites.
