PANAJI: Drishti Marine lifesavers rescued 11 persons from various Indian states from drowning off Goa’s coastline over the weekend. The lifesavers carried out four double rescues and three single rescues, and also traced a missing child at Arambol beach in North Goa.
At Baga beach, a 21-year-old man from Tamil Nadu was caught in a rip current while swimming. Lifesaver Subham Paik rushed into the water and safely brought the victim to shore.
At Calangute beach, a 42-year-old man from Karnataka was pulled by a rip current. Lifesavers Vinod Gaonkar, equipped with a rescue board, and Subham Mukhiya, with a rescue tube, responded swiftly to bring him to safety.
At Candolim beach, two men aged 19 and 20 from Hubli ventured into deep water and were caught in a rip current. Lifesaver Saifhul Baidya used a rescue board to bring both victims safely back to shore.
At Morjim beach, two male tourists from Haryana and Bihar were rescued by lifesaver Vinod Salelkar, who responded immediately with a rescue board and successfully brought them to shore.
At Arambol beach, an 11-year-old boy from Pune was reported missing. Lifesavers stationed at the beach launched a search operation, and Chetan Bandekar located the child some distance away. The boy was safely reunited with his father in the presence of police and a beach warden.
At Agonda beach, a 37-year-old woman and a 40-year-old man from Bengaluru were caught in a lateral rip current. Lifesavers Satyavan and Ratnakar Velip promptly rescued both individuals and brought them safely to shore.
At Dudhsagar waterfalls, two men from Andhra Pradesh, aged 21 and 24, were rescued after one of them began panicking in the water without a life jacket, prompting his friend to jump in. Both started drowning before lifesavers Niraj and Sagar intervened using a rescue tube and throw bag to bring them back safely.
In another incident at the same site, a 44-year-old man from Gujarat sustained a knee injury. Lifesavers Niraj and Maruti administered first aid, placed him on a spine board, and handed him over to his family for further medical attention.
Drishti Marine, which manages Goa’s beach safety operations, continues to advise visitors to swim only in designated safe zones and follow instructions from lifesavers while enjoying the state’s beaches and natural water bodies.
