PANAJI: Drishti Marine lifesavers rescued six persons from drowning, traced five missing individuals, and attended to multiple medical emergencies during a series of operations carried out across Goa’s beaches and tourist locations over the weekend.
One of the major rescue operations took place at Dudhsagar waterfalls, where a seven-year-old boy from Bengaluru reportedly fell into the water in a rocky area without wearing a life jacket. His 28-year-old mother also entered the water in an attempt to save him, but both began struggling and were at risk of drowning. Lifesaver Devendra Naik immediately entered the water with rescue equipment and safely brought both ashore.
At Palolem beach, a 28-year-old man from Pune was rescued after his kayak overturned nearly 400 metres from the shore. Lifesaver Satyan Khobrekar responded on a jet ski and safely brought the tourist back to the beach.
Drishti Marine personnel also successfully traced several missing beachgoers during the weekend rush. At Baga beach, an eight-year-old boy from Bengaluru who had gone missing was traced at adjoining Candolim beach and reunited with his father in the presence of Goa Police. Similarly, a four-year-old boy from Bihar who went missing at Calangute beach was found safely at nearby Baga beach after an hour-long search.
At Colva beach, a seven-year-old girl from Sattari who got separated from her parents was reunited with her family after beach marshals raised alerts and made public announcements. In another incident at the same beach, a 22-year-old woman from Karnataka who got separated from her family without a mobile phone was also reunited safely with her relatives by lifesavers.
Drishti Marine lifesavers additionally helped recover and return a lost mobile phone to its owner at Colva beach after proper identification procedures in the presence of Goa Police.
In Canacona, Drishti Marine personnel assisted in tracing a missing 47-year-old man from Uttarakhand who was believed to be in Goa. After his location was traced near a bridge in Canacona, lifesaver Sarvesh Chopdekar found the man sleeping beneath the bridge and informed Goa Police. The man was later handed over to his family members for medical treatment.
Meanwhile, several medical emergencies were also attended to by lifesavers. At Hollant beach, a 33-year-old man from Bengaluru suffered a stingray injury to his foot while swimming and was administered first aid before being shifted through a 108 ambulance for further treatment. Two tourists from Kerala also sustained jellyfish stings while swimming at the same beach and were treated by lifesavers.
At Galgibag beach, a 22-year-old woman from Mumbai suffered a toe injury after stepping on seashell-covered stones near the riverside. Drishti Marine personnel administered first aid before handing her over safely to her friends.
Drishti Marine officials said the weekend operations highlighted the importance of beach safety, timely intervention, and adherence to lifesaver instructions, especially during the ongoing tourist season and rough sea conditions.
