QUEPEM: Adivasi Sangtna Quepem leaders upheld the initiative to protect, preserve and promote Goa’s tradition, culture and heritage.
Art and Culture Director extended its support and appreciates the initiative of the Adivasi Sangatna Quepem.
Speaking on this occasion, Sagun Velip, Director of Art and Culture, said, “we have always boosted our local culture of Goa. We have been at the forefront to keep alive our cultural heritage and tradition of Goan origin. We are totally dedicated to it; if any help needs from our department side, we are always available,” Velip added.
He spoke as a chief guest in the 11th Tribal Festival celebrated by Adivasi Sangatna Quepem on Sunday.
On this tribal festival occasion, Adivasi Sangatna Quepem President Pobre Fernandes said that for establishing this sangatna, the main aim is to bring them together at the bigger platform and to aid them to develop educational skills, making them economically self-reliable by giving them training in various aspects which can generate job for them” Fernandes said.
Another special invitee Guest was social worker Santosh Desai; he said: “it is a real privilege that I have been given honour every year to be the part of such a wonderful festival”. “It always brings the uniqueness of local cultural heritage and tradition alive which we want to keep it alive, for future generation and it is one of the great platforms for Adivasi community to show their art, craft and culture,” Desai said.
Ex-President of Sangtana Joao Fernandes said that if social, economic and educational consciousness occurs among the community, the entire community develops/comes up. It is high time that community leaders focus more on engaging in the field of education, social and economic development rather than focusing only on politics. This is the only way to take the community forward, Fernandes said.
