SANVORDEM: Minister Subhash Phaldesai said he is working to bring the Betul Fort under the state government today.
“We are working to bring the Betul Fort under the state government. As of now, Betul Fort is under the Commissioner of Customs. The restoration work is to complete by the next Shiv Jayanti,’ said Phaldesai.
He further said there have been certain encroachments on the fort area, and the road linking to the fort is a private area.
The Betul Fort’s paths and steps crumbled after heavy rains, indicating that the State government’s total disregard for maintenance over the past 60 years had finally taken its toll on the historic building.
Heritage and history buffs and Betul inhabitants expressed worries that the entire edifice might collapse. They also demanded that the government repair the famous fort, but their petitions went unanswered for the previous ten years.
They claimed that the paths and stairs leading to the ancient fort had crumbled due to recent severe rains. Additionally, pits have developed near the defence wall, which has alarmed the townspeople, who now worry that the fort’s very existence is in jeopardy.
