CUNCOLIM: Cuncolim Police have registered an unnatural death case following the death of a 95-year-old woman who was found unconscious in the backyard of her residence at Santmoddi, Chinchinim.
According to police, information regarding the incident was received on May 5, 2026, through a phone call from Jerson Gomes, a panch member of Chinchinim, who informed authorities that an elderly woman was lying unconscious near her house.
Police personnel rushed to the spot and found the woman lying unconscious in the backyard of her residence. During preliminary inquiry, she was identified as Esperance Mascarenhas, aged 95, a resident of Santmoddi, Chinchinim in Salcete Taluka.
Initial inquiry revealed that the deceased, who lived alone, had reportedly gone behind her house to pluck mangoes and was later found unconscious on the ground.
A 108 ambulance was called to the scene and shifted her to the Primary Health Centre at Cuncolim, where the on-duty doctor declared her dead.
Police thereafter conducted the scene of occurrence panchanama and inquest proceedings. The body was later referred to the South Goa District Hospital, Margao, for medico-legal formalities.
An unnatural death case has been registered under Section 194 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS).
Further inquiry into the matter is being conducted by PSI Aditya Sawant of Cuncolim Police Station.
